  1. DIABETES IS A CONDITION THAT HINDERS YOUR BODY'S ABILITY TO RESPOND TO INSULIN THAT EVENTUALLY LEADS TO ABNORMAL METABOLISM OF CARBOHYDRATES, LEADING TO SPIKED BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS. 
  2. Put one cup of water in a copper vessel at night, and drink the water in the morning.
  3. To reduce kapha, you should follow the kapha-pacifying diet, especially avoiding excess intake of sweets, carbohydrates, and dairy products. Take more fresh vegetables and bitter herbs.
  4. Another way to control blood sugar levels is to bring turmeric into use. Add turmeric to your daily diet.
  5. To help regulate your blood sugar level, you can try taking half teaspoon of ground bay leaf and half teaspoon turmeric, mixed in one tablespoon aloe vera gel. Take the mixture at least twice a day before lunch and dinner.
  6. Diabetics should definitely have a stock of methi dana in their homes. You can consume methi dana soaked in water every morning.
  7. Ginger tea helps stimulate digestion that is beneficial in reducing the excess kapha in your system

Natural is the best and these Ayurvedic medicines for diabetes prove it yet again!

1.Bitter Gourd Juice

It is considered to be one of the best remedies for diabetes. This is attributed to the high content of antioxidants and bioactive compounds like polypeptide-p that exhibits hypoglycemic activity 
It should be taken on an empty stomach daily in the early morning. Almost 30 ml of juice should be consumed by the patient.

Method to Prepare:

  • Peel the bitter gourd and cut it into small pieces.
  • It is important to separate the seeds before putting pieces into the grinder.
  • A small amount of water can also be added to adjust the consistency of the juice.
  • Sieve the juice in order to remove excess pulp.

2. Neem Leaves, Tulsi Leaves, and Belpatras

Due to the presence of antioxidants in all these 3 components, the free radical scavenging activity of glutathione and superoxide dismutase increases that enables pancreas gland’s functioning and hence, better blood sugar regulation. 


Mix the extract of 10 neem leaves, 10 tulsi leaves and 10 belpatras  This mixture can be taken with water on an empty stomach in order to reduce the content of sugar in the blood.

3. Bel (Bael) Leaves

These leaves have antidiabetic characteristics. Therefore, diabetic patients should consume the extract of these leaves by mixing them with black pepper.
Another effective way could be to mix around 15 ml of Juice of bel leaves with 5g of honey. This concoction can be taken three times a day as a medicine for diabetes mellitus.

4. Ground Bay Leaf, Turmeric & Aloe Vera

Mix ground bay leaf (1/2 tbsp), turmeric (1/2 tbsp) and aloe vera gel (1 tbsp). This mixture should be taken twice a day before lunch and dinner. It is quite effective in controlling blood sugar levels attributed to the high content of anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
Curcumin, in turmeric, is even potential of reversing the damage caused to pancreas with increased production of insulin-secreting beta cells. Therefore, managing diabetes with better stabilization of blood sugar levels.

5. Methi Seeds (Fenugreek Seeds)

Methi seeds are another natural remedy for diabetes. When combined with other Ayurvedic herbs, Methi seedswork wonders in curing diabetes as these are a rich source of soluble fibers that regulate the digestion and absorption of food sugars 

Method to Prepare

  • There are many ways in which Methi or fenugreek seeds can be consumed as a treatment for type 2 diabetes.
  • Soak methi seeds in warm water overnight. These soaked seeds should be chewed by the patient in the morning.
  • These soaked methi seeds (4 tbsp) can also be crushed in the grinder along with the water (300 ml) in which they were soaked. Sieve the mixture and drink it. This therapy should be followed daily for at least 3 months.
  • Grind seeds of Methi (100 gm). This methi powder is then mixed with turmeric powder (25gm). This mixture should be consumed with a glass of milk twice a day.
  • Diabetic patients can also mix the powdered methi seeds into the wheat flour so that chapattis can be prepared from this dough. Regular consumption of these chapattis can bring quick results in the treatment of diabetes.

6. Cinnamon powder

This powder is also an ayurvedic medicine for diabetes. Mix 3-4 tbsp of cinnamon powder in one-liter water. This mixture is then heated for around 20 minutes.
After that, strain the mixture and leave it to cool. A diabetic patient should consume this cinnamon drink on a daily basis.

7. Jamun Seeds (Eugenia jambolana) and Jamun Leaves

Jamun contains alkaloid jamboline or antimellin that prevents the conversion of starch into sugar . Thus chewing of 4-5 jamun leaves can be very beneficial for curing type 2 diabetes.
Also, jamun seeds can be ground and 1 tsp of powder can be consumed with lukewarm water twice a day. 

8. Amla (Emblica Officinalis)

The Amla’s curative properties are widely known. Around 20 ml of juice, taken twice a day can be immensely good for the diabetic patient.
Even amla fruit can be ground into a powdered form and taken twice a day.

9. Banyan tree bark (ficus bengalensis)

The decoction of the bark of banyan tree can be another effective ayurvedic medicine. This is due to the presence of a compound called Leucocyanidin that stimulates insulin secretion and also, inhibits insulin degradation . Take 20 gm of banyan tree bark and heat it in four glasses of water.
It should be heated till the time water is reduced to almost one glass. Then it should be consumed, once it gets cold.  

10. Amalaki Churna

This herb can have a healing effect when it comes to diabetes. It is the fruit powder of Amla or Emblica officinalis. Mix Amalaki churna (500mg) with turmeric powder (500mg) and naag bhasma (125mg).
This mixture should be consumed with honey in order to reduce blood sugar.

11. Vijaysar Churna

Also known as Indian Kino powder, it is prepared from the bark of Pterocarpus marsupium or Vijaysar tree.  It is highly effective in pacifying the kapha and pitta dosha. Therefore, considered as one of the trustworthy remedies for curing type 2 diabetes
Patients can either consume the cubes of vijaysar directly or this cube can be soaked in water overnight. This water can be consumed on an empty stomach in the morning.

12. Triphala

This health concoction is a mixture of three dried herbs viz. Amla, Bibhitaki, and Haritaki. The Triphala can be another ayurvedic medicine for diabetes as it helps in lowering the sugar levels in the blood.
The decoction of equal parts of Triphala, the root of barberry, colocynth, and moth (20ml) should be prepared. This liquid can be taken with turmeric powder (4gm) twice a day.

Diet & Lifestyle

As a long-term cure for diabetes, Ayurveda greatly stresses on various diet and lifestyle changes which can help a diabetic patient lead a much healthier life.
  • Go for high fiber diet. Oatmeal and high fiber cereals can be better food choices.
  • Make whole grains a part of your diet. Whole grains help in regulating the glycemic response, increasing insulin sensitivity, improving pancreatic β-cell functions and increasing insulin secretion. Opting for wheat bread, wheat pasta, low-fat and multigrain crackers, low sugar, whole grain cereals and brown rice could have a healing effect for the diabetic patient.
  • Garlic and onions should be consumed as garlic contains allicin that reduces sugar level, while onion has low sugar characteristics.
  • Cheese and yogurt prepared with skimmed milk can be taken.
  • Eat plenty of green vegetables, black gram, and fish.
  • Avoid sweet fruits like pineapple, grapes, mangoes, etc. Rather include fruits with a low glycemic index which includes Indian gooseberry, apples, peaches, pears, orange, guava, and Jambul fruit in your diet.
  • Include Bengal gram (Chana) in your diet as it has shown good result in glucose tolerance and urinary excretion.
  • Barley is the best grain for managing diabetes. As an effective way to control diabetes, you can make a flour mixture of 1 part barley, 1 part black chickpeas, and 4 parts whole-wheat flour. This mixture can be then used to make chapattis or form pancakes and bread.
  • Avoid potatoes, sweet potatoes, colocasia (taro), yams, fresh grains and pulses (legumes), whole yogurt (high in fat)
  • Indulge in some light exercises. You can start brisk walking of around one hour in a day.
  • Yoga can be highly effective in diabetes management. Sirsasana, Veerasana, Paschimotasana, Mayurasana and many other yoga poses are quite beneficial in treating both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
Considering the lifetime benefits of Ayurvedic Medicines in the treatment of Diabetes, it is better to go for Ayurveda and lead a diabetes-free and much-rejuvenated lifestyle.

Basic Ayurvedic advice for general health

THREE PILLARS OF HEALTHY LIFE.

In this article we are going to know about the three pillars of healthy life told in ayurveda.

if we follow these codes on life we could head up a healthy life.
the three pillairs of life are...

1-Aaharam(food & Food habits).

2-Nidra(Sleep).

3-Brahmacharya(celibacy).

these are foremost things to follow in order to achieve a healthy life.
in this article we first know about the first one aaharam.


#1-AAHAARAM (FOOD & FOOD HABITS).

The food is the first need of every living beings in this world everything in this world is made up of panchamahabhuta's (i.e five elements) the composition of these five elements and the soul makes a life and it is sustained by the consumption of the five elements itself.
these five elements has different properties and by the combination of them.
And also the body has three main types vatic constitution,paitik constitution,kapha constitution. and combination of these two and lastly all the three combination it is said as the best constitution of body.

in this session it is focused to give a general idea about diet in ayurveda and gone through overall view. still much more criteria are there to consider those can be discussed in following articles.

* Quantity.

Body constitution
each person have different type of body structure shape size weight constitution their liking towards food their eating habits. everything will change according to the person.
first thing to consider for planing a healthy diet is to asses ones own body type and constitution



if you have vata predominency...

the charactersistics are Thin, light frame, and excellent adaptability. Their energy comes in bursts, and they are likely to experience sudden bouts of fatigue.
 Vatas typically have drink skin and cold hands and feet. They sleep lightly and their digestion can be sensitive. When imbalanced, Vatas tend to experience weight loss, constipation,weakness, restlessness, aches, and pains.


FOODS TO REDUCE:


Cold foods such as salads, iced drinks, raw vegetables and greens are not good for those with Vata imbalance (i.e. where Vata is dominant). Avoid drinks with too much caffeine and candies as they disturb Vata. Avoid unripe fruits, as they are too astringent.
                                      FOODS TO TAKE:

BEST VEGETABLES (cooked):

Asparagus, beets, carrots, cucumber, garlic, green beans, onions, sweet potatoes, radishes, and turnips.

VEGETABLES IN MODERATION (cooked)

Broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, eggplant, leafy green vegetables, mushrooms, peas, peppers, potatoes, sprouts, tomatoes, zucchini
Avoid raw vegetables, in general.

BEST FRUITS (well-ripened):

Bananas, apricots, avocados, berries, cherries, coconut, fresh figs, grapefruit, lemons, grapes, mangoes, sweet melons, sour oranges, papaya, pineapple, peaches, plums, stewed fruits.

FRUITS IN MODERATION:

Cranberries, pears, pomegranates.
Avoid dried fruits, in general and all unripe fruit.

BEST GRAINS:

Oats (as cooked oatmeal cereal, not dry), cooked rice.

GRAINS IN MODERATION:

Wheat, barley, buckwheat, corn, dry oat, millet.

DAIRY:

All Dairy is acceptable.
if you have Pitta predominency...

Pittas literally have more fire in them than other types. They have better appetites and better digestion. They can withstand the cold better, as they are hotter-headed. They are naturally aggressive and impatient, intelligent, and sharp. Since Pittas have strong and efficient digestion, they can generally eat just about everything. Most Pittas get into trouble by continued use of too much salt, overuse of sour and spicy food, and overeating.
                                                             
                                                          FOOD TO REDUCE
Pittas should use less butter and added fat, and they should avoid pickles, sour cream, and cheese. They should also avoid vinegar in salad dressing and use lemon juice instead. Alcoholic and fermented foods should be avoided. Reduce coffee. Avoid oily, hot, salty, and heavy foods such as anything fried. Pittas should also skip egg yolks, nuts, hot spices, honey, and hot drinks.
                                      FOOD TO TAKE


BEST VEGETABLES:

Sweet and bitter vegetables, like asparagus, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, radishes, cauliflower, celery, cucumber, green beans, green (sweet) peppers, leafy green vegetables, lettuce, mushrooms, okra, parsley, peas, potatoes, sprouts, squash, sweet potatoes, zucchini, carrot, and spinach.

VEGETABLES IN MODERATION:

Eggplant, onion, tomatoes, hot peppers, chilies, and beets.

BEST FRUITS:

Bananas, avocados, cherries, coconuts, figs, mangoes, melons, oranges, pears, pineapples, plums, prunes, and raisins.

FRUITS IN MODERATION:

Apricot, apples, berries, sour cherries, grapefruit, raw papaya, dark grapes, peaches, persimmon, and pineapples.
Note: Fruits should be sweet and ripe; avoid fruits that come to market sour or unripe. Also avoid green grapes, oranges, pineapple, and plum unless they are sweet and ripe.

FAVORABLE GRAINS:

Barley, oats, wheat, and white rice (preferably basmati).

GRAINS IN MODERATION:

Brown rice, corn, millet, and rye.

BEST DAIRY:

Butter, egg whites, ghee (clarified butter), milk, and fruit sorbets (not sour).
If you have kapha predominency
Kaphas tend to have heavier, earthier bodies than other types, and tend to store watery substances like fluids and fat more readily. They are naturally calm and attached; A Kapha speaks slowly and melodically. They sometimes have watery dreams, and tend to have elimination that is thick and heavy.
FOODS TO REDUCE:
Kaphas need to watch the consumption of too many sweet and fatty foods, and need to watch their salt consumption as well, as it can lead to fluid retention. They should avoid deep-fried foods. A typical Kapha tendency is to overeat: The main meal should be at the middle of the day, and only a light, dry meal in the evening. In general, Kaphas should avoid sugar, fats, and dairy products, skip chilled foods and drinks, and use ghee and oils in small amounts only.
FOODS TO TAKE :

BEST VEGETABLES:

Asparagus, beets, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, eggplant, garlic, leafy green vegetables, lettuce, mushrooms, okra, onions, peas peppers, potatoes, radishes, spinach, and sprouts.

VEGETABLES IN MODERATION:

Cucumbers, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, and zucchini.

BEST FRUITS:

Apples, apricots, berries, cherries, cranberries, papaya, pears, prunes, pomegranates, and grapefruit. Dried fruits in general are good for Kaphas, specifically apricots, figs, prunes, and raisins.

FRUITS IN MODERATION:

Dates, fresh figs, bananas, coconuts, and mangoes.

BEST GRAINS:

Barley, buckwheat, corn, millet, oats, rye, and basmati rice.

GRAINS IN MODERATION:

Rice and wheat.
Avoid hot cereals and steamed grains, in general, as they are too moist and heavy for Kaphas.

BEST DAIRY:

Warm skim milk, small amounts of whole milk, and eggs (not fried or cooked with butter), goat’s milk, soy milk, and camel milk.
